Extrema Ratio RAO C is a compact folding knife deriving from the iconic RAO II. Thanks to its structure, RAO C is a tool that, despite its small size, manages to guarantee the same qualities of robustness and reliability as its elder brother while offering better portability as well as manageability. The handle is made of two finely crafted anodized aluminum handle scales on which Extrema Ratio applies a hard oxidation treatment, allowing the handle to be more resistant to wear and corrosion. Two steel frames help increase the strength of the handle to cope with the most demanding uses. The opening lock mechanism is particularly resistant as it is supported by a safety system that transforms the knife into a proper fixed blade. The primary safety on the blade can be activated by raising and lowering the locking pin. A practical and rapid secondary safety system was added to guarantee the user maximum safety during use; the safety can be activated simply by moving the locking pin horizontally. The reversible clip is designed to allow concealed carry inside the pocket, making the knife invisible from the outside. The blade is made of Böhler N690 steel hardened to 58 HRC with the classic Extrema Ratio MIL-C-13924 black finish. A shape with the profile of RAO C was laser cut to lighten the steel frames; this was then used to create a gadget that comes with the knife. Rao C is available in Black and Tactical Grey versions. This model is the evolution of the Fulcrum Folder (out of production since 2005), the first folding knife produced by Extrema Ratio according to the specifics of an Italian anti-terrorism unit. The requirements were: an extremely robust blade that could be used as a lever; toughness comparable to a fixed blade; an ultra secure blade lock; a knife that could be carried in pistol's magazine pocket. The Fulcrum II is basically identical to its predecessor, the only variations are the addition of a reversible clip, the appearance of a partially lowered surface on the handle which improves the ergonomics and facilitates the use of the opening "pin". A manual security lock which works on the lever mechanism "back lock" thus preventing the blade block being removed accidentally during energetic use. This lock can also be used when the knife is closed to prevent the knife being opened if taken without authorisation. In this case the knife cannot be opened even if the mechanism is often irrevocably damaged. The dorsal blade, with a flat grinding, offers a comfortable resting point for the thumb. The tang, in tempered steel, is efficacious for breaking glass and is provided with a hole for fixing on a security lace. Desert Warfare finish is special order; additional 4-8 weeks lead time. Ricognizione ed Acquisizione Obiettivi” (Target Acquisition Regiment) airborne “FOLGORE” (185° RAO) commissioned to EXTREMA RATIO the developing of a special knife based on specifications concerning their special duties. The 185° RAO, is the only unit in the Italian Armed Forces in charge of long range recons and to acquire several kind of targets to be engaged with artillery, helicopters, aircraft and battleships suppression fire, across all the possible theatres during armed force, interforce and multinational force operations. A very delicate and dangerous duty, operated by detachments capable to penetrate, operate and survive in hostile surroundings thanks to a two years very hard training. The motto of this special operation regiment is: “VIDERE NEC VIDERI”, from Latin: “SEE WITHOUT BE SEEN”. The result is the knife called RAO, a survival knife, not a big folder but a compact field knife with a strong and heavy blade and a very safe locking system, assisted by an extra safe device that turn the folder in a real fix blade knife. The blade opening and closing are acting with both the hands together to minimize the risk of self injuries. The blade, because of it’s weight, it’s a real guillotine. The extra safe device is a steel pin to be hand screwed through two holes placed by the guard zone of the massive anticorodal aluminum alloy handle. This device is necessary because of the violence of the chopping performances expressed this uncommon folder. The presence of this concrete pin between the blade and the user hands is a great psychological assistance to chop strongly and quickly. The sheath is an essential part of the system.It contain a diamond sharpener and allows the user to carry the knife in open condition, held by a two clip provided lace or in close condition inside the front pocket.
